All of the Media Coverage on Sexting Makes Internet Searches Rise
There doesn’t seem to be a day that goes by where sexting hasn’t made the news or hasn’t been a hot topic of local media outlets. Television talk shows, news programs, online syndications and magazines are just a few outlets that have reported on sexting and the dangers of this cell phone niche.
For anyone who is not aware, sexting is an act that is commonly committed by teens and young adults, all thought it can occur with any age group. Sexting takes place when one person sends another person (or a number of people), text messages that contains nude pictures, sexually explicit substance or text. Parents across the country are concerned about this craze due to several reasons:
- Since sexting is an act that occurs among adolescents, parents are concerned that teens that are receiving sexually explicit content and that the teens are not mature enough or emotionally mature enough to handle the situation.
- One of the major concerns regarding sexting is that once a person sends an image or sexually explicit content through a cell phone message, then that content can end up anywhere. It can end up being sent to other people’s cell phones; emailed to other people and even put on the Internet. If this happens, then a person’s reputation can be ruined or tainted.
- With a good deal of the younger generation having cell phones, parents are also disturbed that their children could be receiving text messages from people who are older.
- Cameras on cell phones provide an easy way for teens and adolescents to pass things to and from their friends without their parent’s knowledge or consent. Even parents that monitor their children’s cell phone use daily can be deceived because it is reasonably simple for messages and pictures to be erased.
With all of the concerns and dangers regarding sexting, parents are now turning their attention to the Internet in order to try and find a solution to the problem. Parents are searching for ways to find out if their children are sexting; how to stop their children from sexting and what they should do if they find out that their child has either sent or a received a message with sexually explicit content in it. Over the past several months, Internet searches for these topics and similar ones have seen a steady increase.
While there is a lot of information on the Internet about the definition of sexting, parents are still feeling a little hopeless when it comes to solid advice regarding the subject matter. As technologies advance and as more kids and teens acquire electronic devices, the more likely it is going to be that this trend is going to continue.
