Even though the apple ipad is not officially released in Singapore yet, (release date is July 2010), ebay is already display many people from Singapore buying ipad on the auction site. The ipad was officially launched in the US last month and more than 300,000 units has been sold on the first day.
As the worldwide launch of ipads starts on 28th May this month, many apple fans from Singapore could not wait but went on to ebay to get the ipad first. One Singaporean came out with SGD$1300 for a 64GB elementary version that comes with Wifi and purchased 2 units. The official US price for the exact model costs US$699 or SGD$983.
With trivial effort and originative, you can actually buy the ipad in Singapore from amazon and ship to a US address via vpost which in turn will ship the ipad to your home address in Singapore. This has been done by many internet savvy Singaporeans who use the same idea to purchase their amazon kindle.
Just a few days ago, I saw a shop at Compasspoint retailing the apple ipad 16GB wifi version at $988 and the 32GB wifi model at $1188. When i checked with the staff, they even said that warranty is covered as long as you keep their receipt.
The price quoted by the shop is not expensive as compared to what you can buy at ebay, considering the fact that you can test and check the ipad for any flaws, problems and the most important consideration is that the shop is physically there, so your risks is greatly minimized.
Personally, I will pay more money for better self-assurance so that i wouldn’t be scammed, especially there are so many people selling online and you never know who is selling the fake product. But of course, if you were to buy the ipad in Singapore from amazon, then it almost guarantee that you will surely received your ipad since Amazon is a reputable company.

iPad Buying Guide Lines
You can feel it, you know you want an iPad. It’s probably the coolest thing you can have for the forseeable future . You’ve dreamed of going around with it since it was announced. You may even have considered standing in line to get your hands on the release of the first batch of iPad in stores. But you didn’t. So what’s preventing you from getting one?
Here’s Your Choices
There are six iPad variations available. The Wi-Fi models with 16 gigs, 32 gigs and 64 gigs capacity and the Wi-Fi +3G models of the same capacities. Price varies from $499 to $829. Somewhere in that price range is the perfect iPad for you.
But how do you decide which is the perfect choice for you?
Think about how much capacity you actually need. If you love resource-hungry apps, your best choice will be the one that boasts the biggest capacity. If you usually download small apps, you should probably stick with the one with basic specs. Single purpose utilities and solutions shouldn’t be your problem. These typically are not ravenous memory eaters. What you need to worry about are video and audio files. If you love loading your devices with lots of music and videos, you will need a model that has a bigger storage room.
In the end though, you still have to consider how much you are willing to dole out for a multifunctioning device. You will spend at least $699 on a 64 GB Wi-Fi iPad and at least $829 for a 64 GB Wi-Fi + 3G model. Another consideration is the fact that it takes A LOT of apps to use up all your iPad’s memory so unless there really is a need to buy the one with the largest capacity , and for that matter, the highest price tag, you should probably consider the models hovering between the bottom and high end variants.
Why is 3G that important?
In order to have 3G support, you must be prepared to spend $130 dollars extra on your iPad. thats on top of the price of the model you choose. This comes in very handy when you are frequently out of range of hotspots.
The outstanding thing with iPad’s 3G support is that it does not bind you to any long-term contracts. You can choose from AT&T’s offer of $14.99 for a upper limit of 250MB data transfer per month which you can repurchase whenever you choose or $29.00 for unlimited data transfer. Not a bad deal. Not at all. On top of this, you also get to access AT&T’s hotspots whenever you want.
But still, is 3G that necessary ? Depending on how important is wide-area network coverage. Among the most important considerations for getting 3G service for your device is the preparation for the possibility of needing to connect online when you’re nowhere near a range of access point. This is especially crucial if you live your life online, 24/7.
Still uncertain about which model you should choose?
Follow the rule of thumb in buying devices – buy the best model that your wallet can afford .
